Getting My Education

Donation protected

I have always been someone that has put forth all my effort in order to better myself within my education. I graduated high school with a 3.92 GPA and was still thinking of ways I could've done better to get a 4.0. I was awarded an AP Scholar Award and an Athlete-Scholar Award when I also participated in cheerleading along with upholding my schoolwork responsibilities. I was also part of the National Honors Society at my school and therefore graduated with Honors.

During my senior year, I struggled with handling the fact that my mother was terminally diagnosed with ALS. Seeing her body slowly fighting back at her and eventually, in my first year of college, taking her away from me forever was absolutely heartbreaking and a piece of my heart died with her. Her passing was and will be the biggest toll on my family and me. She was absolutely the most important person in the world to me and my biggest supporter. My father had taken care of her for the year and a half she suffered with this disease, and therefore was unable to provide income.  With this, I am left to pay for my college education.

I have big dreams! I am on a pre-medicine path in hopes to go to medical school and become a psychiatrist. With this, college expenses are high and I struggle to find the money to afford this all. I get wonderful financial aid in the form of grants and federal loans, but I am still left to pay half my tuition myself, which is roughly $11,000. I am unable to get loans because I don't have a cosigner and since I don't have much credit, I can't get loans on my own.

Everything I do from here on out is for my mom and her memory. I will work as hard as I need to in school in order to make her proud. I know my mom's biggest concern for her children was for them to become successful and I will absolutely do what I need to in order to become successful and fulfill her wishes. My mom believed in me, I believe in myself, I just hope whoever is reading this does as well and can help propel my education.
