help farmers get work and an education

Donation protected
Hello everybody.

My name is Jacob, but people usually call me Jack, and I have started this project to get african families educated and out of the poverty bracket.

so what am I doing?

I am setting up a business in Karonga Malawi, this business will hire local farmers that are struggling through life to work for us. The condition for them working for us, is that they have to go through school and get a good education.

So, that is the very broad simple answer to what this is all basically about. But what is the history, what is this going to accomplish and how am I going to accomplish this.

For starters, this is not yet registered as an official charity in Austalia, but I am hoping to do this in the next few weeks. The people who have already donated or are looking to donate will get reciepts sent to them for tax as soon as I can get this registerd, and thankyou for your patience on this.

I think it's important to give you the background so you can understand how this begun.

I have worked in a small town of Malawi Africa called karonga twice. Both being in june july and august of 2011 and 2012. My second son was born in May which is why I didn't go this year.

Whilst I was working in Karonga in 2012 I met a great local worker named Moses. I had heard about Moses after I left in 2011, being an incredibly dedicated and intelligent worker. So I was intrigued when I also met him, that he was indeed unusually driven to learn and participate. This person has the absolute potential to be something better then what his life has given him, but can't due to his poor birth. So I came up with the idea of using a small digital movie projector to set up a business as a cinema in the small town.

So I lended my projector to Moses, purchased some speakers and a DVD player and gave him the means to set up a business to support his family. There was one golden rule that Moses was required to follow, go to school and get a good education.

So this is not a setup for children, I am getting fathers set up to get an education with the ongoing effect of them being able to get good jobs and get their kids educated.

Malawi does have an education system, all these people do go to a very basic school, but they don't even finish what we would call primary school. They have to pay extra to do what we would call secondary school to then attempt to go to college.

So, Moses has been running this cinema since mid 2012. He plays movie in the morning until midday, goes to school from 12pm till 5pm, then he plays football on the cable network he had installed in the evenings ( purchased using profits from the business).

Since doing this he has finished one year level of highschool, been able to put his mother in a private hospital because she was denied medical care and in general has significantly imporved his families quality of life.

With this I have seen that setting up businesses to have locals get an income is an effective way to fund locals to get an education.

This works off the old theory of give a man a fish or teach a man to fish, this project is empowering people to work and change their own lives, then have the power to change the lives of their children and childrens children etc.

What will the money be spent on?

I have put the requirment at $3000. This is because with that money I will be able to purchase 7 LED long life projectors.
this works out to:
3 medium quality projectors for during the day when less people use the cinema
3 high quality projectors for the evenings when big sporting events are played and more people come to watch the movies.
And 1 more medium quality projector to give a young man without a family a trial at doing this.

These projector will work out to approximately $1000.

The other $2000 will be taken to Malawi with me to purchase audio equipment , DVD players and get a cable network hooked up etc. This will creat a full set up that is able to start working strait away.

We are currently looking for the best venues for these mini businesses to be situated in.

The staff who we will choose are out of people we know that deserve this, they will have 6 years to get their education completed, then the next family will come in and have the same 6 years to complete their education, so forth and so forth.

This project is designed to give people a fighting chance but open up opportunites to others that also deserve it.

Their will be 4 cinemas set up, Moses will be supervising all of these cinemas because he has successfully run his business for a year and a half now.

The cinemas will be in the North, center, South and far South of the town of Karonga. this will ensure a good spread and a good intake of people to be customers.

Any money that people put into this project will go directly to helping getting a person educated and supporting his family. I pay for all of my own flights and accomodation, I have also been funding this on my own and am setting this up to get help in doing it properly. I wish to have this project last for 20-30 years.

The ultimate goal is $10,000 which will purchase three-four small buildings to run the cinemas in. This will ensue no rent or people that could try and have a say in what this business does.

By all means if you have any more quetions then please contact me through facebook or your friends that may have gotten you interested in this project.

Thankyou for even taking the time to read about this project of mine

Sincerely , Jacob Davis.
