EDUCATE NOVA SCOTIA ABOUT VAPING

Donation protected

Vaping Advocacy and Education Project  (VAEP) is a Canadian not-for-profit dedicated to helping people learn about vaping as a harm reduction strategy for smokers. VAEP is run by health professionals who review the scientific evidence and make free learning resources  that are easy to understand.

Smoking is the most preventable cause of disease and death in Nova Scotia. Every year, smoking kills 1800 people in this province and costs the taxpayers $322 million. These costs are 100% preventable!

For Canadian smokers, the preferred nicotine replacement method for smoking cessation attempts is vaping (32%) compared to patches (24%) or gum (16%).

The Nova Scotia government has announced that on April 1 they will ban flavours in eliquid and make tobacco harm reduction ineffective. Their rationale is to protect children from vaping .  Being that youth are abusing closed pod system vaping devices that have very few flavours (JUUL has 4) it doesn't make sense to make harm reduction less attractive to smokers.

Flavours are an extremely important aspect to help smokers transition to a 95% safer option as they detox off the 7000 chemical in cigarette smoke.

Nova Scotia has the third highest smoking rate of the provinces. From 2015-2017, men in this province increased their smoking by over 4%. One out of every 4 men in Nova Scotia smoke!

Now, more than ever the representatives of the taxpayers need to look at ALL the options to address this disturbing trend. Health professionals have an ethical obligation to stay current in the credible evidence and promote harm reduction.

We deduct that these groups must not have all the information to make informed decisions about vaping. If they did, they would support the effective utilization of harm reduction and ensure vaping remains an appealing alternative for smokers.

If  Nova Scotia bans flavours, it will set a precedence in Canada for other provinces to follow. Mass education is essential to overcoming the misinformation that is preventing people from understanding the benefits of tobacco harm reduction.

Our founding member, Kellie Ann  , is traveling to Nova Scotia to educate health professionals and the public about the scientific evidence on vaping. After 5 years as a vaping advocate, she is very knowledgeable on the science, history and all aspects of tobacco harm reduction. Her education and experience as a hospital nurse allows her to communicate effectively with the public and health professionals. If you haven't already, please view the video on the top of this page and Kellie Ann will explain our plan.

This GoFundMe will cover the costs of travel, advertising, printed materials, and other expenses involved with Kellie Ann's time in Nova Scotia.

Donate today and be part of the solution to overcome the misinformation about vaping and ensure Canadians have access to an effective strategy to reduce the harm caused from cigarette addiction.
