Edmund's Funeral x

Donation protected
A VERY familiar face around Woodhus - Edwin Horne (fondly known as Edmund) sadly died on 2nd December 2021 leaving behind his devastated family, many friends and lovely neighbours.

Edmund lived very humbly on Tattersall Walk (since 2002) and unfortunately he didn't have Life Insurance and (as he'd drawn on his Mineworker's Pension for more than five years) there will be no Death Benefit either.

Edmund had many friends and I am reaching out to people to see if we could possibly give Edmund the send off he wanted - complete with his coffin being carried into the Crematorium whilst the Smokie song 'Who the Eff is Alice?' is played!

Edwin Derrick Horne was born on 22nd September 1961 at Kings Mill to Iris and Robert Horne.
He was one of ten, his brothers and sisters were;
Clifford
Keith
Linda
Robert
Mary
Alan
Ellen
Vera
and Chris.
They all lived at 144 Blake Street, Mansfield Woodhouse until mid the seventies then they moved on to Tennyson Avenue.

As a child Edmund attended Robin Hood Infant School (on Cox’s Lane) then Robin Hood Junior School (on Oxclose Lane) then Manor Comprehensive at York Street for the first year then he went to the School's other Campus on Park Hall Road.

At Junior School he NEVER had a day off – he won a Book Token for £1.50 and bought two Enid Blyton books of the Famous Five.

Edmund's hero in life (like MANY Manor pupils!) was Byron Edwards. Edmund played Rugby for the Manor School and the Nottinghamshire Schoolboy's County Cricket Club and also Cricket for the Manor School and Sherwood Colliery.

He left School in 1977 and worked at Crowne Farm Colliery then Buxted Poultry - then Sherwood Wall & Floor Tiling then at Sutton Colliery. When that closed he transferred to Sherwood Colliery until 1992 when he worked at Dalatek Plastics - then Precision Plastics on Botany Ave.

In 1999 he was diagnosed diabetic type one and retired due to ill health.

Edmund married Sheila Cowpe in 1980 and they had their daughter Joanne - and then Emma in 1982, the family lived on Mayhall Avenue.

When divorced he lived on Thoresby Road with his good friend Simon Birkett then Edmund moved to Tattersall Walk in September 2002.

Edmund was blessed to have life-long friends he'd known since his School days; Colin Crossland, Jayne Bown, Sue Pearson and Tony &Yvette Price-Mear. He had wonderful neighbours on Tattersall Walk; Pamela & Jessica, Nancy, Jason &Vicky, Gary & Alison, Michelle and Anne.

In 1967 he was attending Assembly at Robin Hood School and the Headmistress had a little girl in a wheelchair with her. She said "This is Yvette, she's got poorly legs and she's going to be starting at this School soon. Would anyone like to push her in her wheelchair?" Edmund's hand shot up and he's been Yvette's best friend ever since.

*He ALWAYS insisted that everyone else stood back and he was the only one left there - so he was stuck with her.

Yvette nominated Edmund for the 'Best Friend of the Year' Competition in 2015 and on 8th July they went to the ITV Studios in London where they were in the audience for the filming of Loose Women. Edmund and Yvette then had lunch with the Panellists and Ruth Langsford declared that Edmund was the winner.

He got three prizes;
1 - a £500 London break - Yvette had that.
2 - a bottle of Champagne - Yvette used that as a prize to raise funds for the Pet Bereavement Support Service - Edmund was the Charity's Chairman.
3 - a giant box of chocolates - Yvette ate them - thinking PURELY of Edmund's health because he's diabetic...

He wasn't bothered - he had a cuddle with his teenage swoon - Gloria Hunniford!

Please, if you can spare anything - or just share this on your wall - let's give Eddy a send-off worthy of one of Woodhus' finest xxx
