SCBT's Clara's Dream: Editing & Premiering Costs

Click here to watch a preview! >> Preview Video

Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre is in its 37th season as a non-profit organization which trains classical ballet dancers and presents high-quality performances to Santa Cruz audiences.  Due to the current inability to gather an audience, SCBT is producing a film version of the annual Nutcracker.  Now in post-production, SCBT needs the support of our community to make this project come fully to fruition.  Your tax-deductible donation will help the Creative Team complete the editing of the movie, and will secure a location for its premiere.  Donate today to help SCBT wrap up this project and create a holiday classic the whole family can enjoy.

Backed by the support of its Board of Directors, Artistic Director Diane Cypher formed a Creative Team made up of 3 talented alumni early this summer.  These three young women serve as Directors, Producers and Choreographer for the movie.  Early fund raising efforts made it possible to hire professional cinematographers Action Studios (the lead a graduate of Scotts Valley High).  With site-specific and distanced choreography, breathtaking dancing, professional high-quality footage, and a sound score by the 2019 SCBT Nutcracker Orchestra, the footage is in the can.

The finished product showcases the many talents involved: Tchaikovsky’s brilliant score!  Maestro Pamela Martin!  52 amazing professional musicians!  SCBT’s talented dancers and additional character artists!  Guest stars Melody Mennite and Lucien Postlewaite from the 2019 production through archival footage!  Site-specific choreography by Flora Chatwin designed for local supporting businesses such as The Dream Inn, Bargetto Winery and Donnelly’s Chocolates, as well as iconic landmarks like the Looff Carousel at the Boardwalk!  Splendid costumes by Michelle Maddy and Theresa Kimbraugh!  Direction by alumni Georgina Wilson and Alicia Houser!

Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre was founded as a non-profit organization in 1982, as a partner with The Studio, School of Classical Ballet.  Together, these organizations have trained some of the best dancers in Santa Cruz, the state and the country.  The pre-professional Company of SCBT has earned Honor status with Regional Dance America, and now with The Ballet Alliance, meeting high standards of technique, artistry and work ethic amongst its dancers, choreographers and directors.  Every year SCBT has produced “The Nutcracker,” since 2002 at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium accompanied by a live professional orchestra.

Help us make magic even in the time of COVID-19.  Everyone needs something fun and hopeful this holiday season.  Our dancers are continuing to train and reach for their dreams.  Keep us going in this time of uncertainty, and help produce something inspiring at the same time.  We at SCBT are hopeful that this film will be a momentary distraction and bring joy to all those who see it.  Available this holiday season via download or stream, with a premiere if protocol allows, and DVDs will be offered for sale.  Thank you for your consideration and for making a contribution if you are able.  Stay safe this holiday season.
