Edith's surgery didn't work. A less than an hour procedure took four, she was very sick.
There was no return, so...
with tremendous help from so many great people, we put her to sleep yesterday at 12:30, and then Lisa and I drove her out to Coney Island. My dear favorite persondog was buried at 3:00 in Billie & Bob's gorgeous, wild yard with all of their animals from as far back as Billie's first childhood cat.
The beach was our way-favorite place and she is there forever now. Longest vacation she ever had.

Edie Is In Surgery Right Now
So, Edith Ann is in surgery right now. Her kidneys have been screwed by the cancer. It looked like kidney disease might get her before the cancer and I figured we have more control over kidney disease than cancer...so, Dr. Laura Mitterman is putting some stents in her. To bypass the kidneys.
Here she is eating organs before her organs operation.

May 15th, 2018 Sure, cancer does what the hell it wants to, but I KNOW that all your wishes and support and Dr. Sue Kimmel and Dr. Michael Linderman's interventions, and all the remedies and supplements, and all of Billie's feedings when Edie didn't want to eat...they are the reasons why she's showing no signs of slowing down with this rhapsodic burial of her birthday chew in the wilds of the brown couch!
So, folks, Edith Ann Reno has been being treated for cancer and seems to be having a REALLY good life. We're adding another treatment to the chemo infusions, immunotherapy, hopefully, this week. She's always been a gentle soul, so I had to throw Pepper out of Edith's bed.
UPDATE: JAN 25 Edie isn't giving in to no lousy cancer:

Edie is a sophisticated city dog who follows Reno everywhere, walks off-leash (but obeys traffic laws), plays ball when and wherever she can, loves the beach, and is a respectful audience member at theater shows, movies, and even dinner conversation, but now--quite unexpectedly--she's sick.
Edith has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
There are a range of treatment options--from pills to intravenous chemotherapy--and which we choose has everything to do with which one Edith responds to.
Reno would never ask for help (and she may well strangle me for making this page), but Edith is her everything and vet bills add up fast. Getting to the diagnosis has drained $1,500 already. I want to make sure Edie gets the very best.
Of course, the success of cancer treatment depends a lot on fast response. If the tumor can be slowed or stopped (and treatment should do that), Edith can go on for a good long time. If it grows, she's not long for this world.
Money raised here will go directly to treatment for Edie. She's got a very good doggie oncologyst now along with the support of her very first vet, so if we raise enough to get proper treatments, she should do well.
Let's give little Edith Ann a chance.
