Edible school garden/Reforestation

Donation protected

The day I drove into "La Escuelita de Pintos" the Teacher, Silvia, was in the Classroom with the kids making banners for a fair as they were studying geometry cutting figures of different shapes to decorate the "guirnaldas". Two little ones, a three and a four year old, were at the front playing with blocks and random toys while the sweet cook and her assistant  kept an eye on them from their small fragrant kitchen. They had already served them all breakfast and lunch; and were preparing the "merienda" and dinner for the eight kids that sleep here from Monday to Friday. She instructed one of her students to read to the others and ask them questions about the chapter, and we went outside to talk about the School.
There are a total of 18 kids from 11 different families of the most varied ages and levels of education.  Some ride their bikes or horses to school, some walk here and others are driven from around the area: el Valle del Rio Pintos, Sierras de Cordoba, Argentina.
Silvia keeps them all very busy and  stimulated through many projects including Astronomy, Poetry, Mathematics,  Health, Arts and Culture; focusing in empoyering their identity.  Here is an example:

We are working together to build a kitchen garden, a tool library and a green house in which we'll produce food and native trees and plants.
Nicolas, a team member who also works for INTA, has already started the kitchen garden with the kids and it is  thriving.

We need more tools and materials, and most importantly,  we need Water. There is a well that needs to get repaired and we are also planning to build a water tank to collect rain water.  This will allow us to produce more food for the School and Community, and start our Native plant production with which we will Reforest the area.
We are also going to start a tool library with the tools we buy so the whole Community will be able to benefit from them.
As the project progresses we will be creating  a seed bank of vegetables and native plants that grow in the garden.
