GoldStar Parents Ed & Joan vs Cancer

The Gutowski’s are not afraid of a good fight...
My brother in law Steven Gutowski was a man who stood up for those in need even if there would be backlash for it. It was not a surprise when he joined the Army. In 2011, while serving our country in Afghanistan, Steven paid the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in action.
This past April, Ed left work one night because he was sick. Quickly we learned that Ed wouldn’t be back to work anytime soon; his new job would be fighting pancreatic cancer.
Everyone who knows Ed understands he is the Grill Master. This title was not earned only because of his prowess behind the spatula. He is the Grill Master because he genuinely wants to work behind the grill for hours during parties so everyone has a good time. I have seen this same work ethic in providing for his family.
For years Ed worked a 6th day to ensure everyone’s needs were met. While he might complain about people being loud when he was trying to sleep or someone leaving their clothes in the dryer, I never heard him complain about the extra hours.
Ed has found a great team to create and execute a treatment plan to give us all great optimism in his ability to beat the cancer. There have been many bumps alongs the way leading to multiple weeks in the hospital, several ambulance rides, and just this week a med-flight. The inability to work while the medical bills keep coming in is extremely stressful.
Joan is no different than the rest of the family. Never drawing attention to her own problems, unwilling to ask for help, and always wanting to focus on helping others. While managing all of Ed’s appointments, endless insurance claims, and providing daycare for her grandchildren, Joan has been in the middle of her own fight. She too has been diagnosed with cancer and has recently had surgery.
While Ed and Joan would never ask, and will likely kill me for this, please consider supporting them as their fight continues. Wether you are able to donate or not, please help spread the word.
It has been a long road so far with a long way to go. Your support will help Ed and Joan keep their focus on the fight not the repercussions of it.
