My name is Eder Flores. I was born in Montery, Mexico and moved to the United States when I was 5 years old. I am now 19 years old and live in richardson, Texas. Until recently, I was a perfectly healthy young adult, attending high school, enjoying video games and helping with the sound system at my church. Then, the greatest difficulty I have had to face in my life occurred, just as I was about to graduate. I lost one of my kidneys due to an infection. The Medical Clinic that I would go to for regular check-ups had detected an infection in my kidney. Unfortunately, this was not communicated with the myself or the doctors at the Main Hospital affiliated with this particular clinic. On one of my visits, they discovered that I had kidney failure and they sent me immediately to the ER.
I have been going through dialysis for an entire year, now. Thankfully, there is the wonderful American Kidney Foundation that has provided financial aid I need in order to undergo dailysis 3 times a week. After every visit, I will be very weak and not be able to get out of bed. Occasionally, I am not able to use the arm that they remove the toxins from my blood. At the same time, I have been trying to work enough hours in the restaurant industry to qualify for medical benefits, so I will be able to get my transplant covered.
Due to the strain on my body from the dialysis, I end up missing days, unable to physically handle the everyday tasks of my job, therefore not meeting the required work hours to get benefits.
I am desiring to raise enough money for my transplant and get a head start on my medication that I will have to take for the rest of my life, following my transplant. The cost of my medication is $2,000 a month.
I am asking for your immediate assistance to help make this a reality at the beginning of this coming new year. This would free me up to be able to work to earn my own way and, in additon, to help support my parents who are not able to work, due to their own health constraints, as they are both getting along in age.
My goal takes into account my transplant operation and 3 years worth of medicine. My ultimate goal is to regain my former health, quickly. I am a young man with his whole future ahead of him. I want to take full advantage of the opportunites that lie ahead.
