The Rush Family- Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
Eddie Rush and his wife Cindy Jo have been married for 18 years. They have two teenage daughters, Kelli (16) and Jennifer (14). Eddie is the sole provider for his family. He is a gifted accountant and fair business man. His integrity and sense of responsibility is hard to find in the business world these days. Cindy Jo works as a cafeteria aid at Oakridge Middle School, she is also available to her children in the afternoons to provide transportation and support for their student endeavors as a devoted mother. Cindy Jo also volunteers a great deal of her time as Band Mom for the Gulf Coast Highschool Marching band.
On December 31, 2017, the Rush family received the news we all pray to never hear. Their beloved husband and father, Eddie, was diagnosed with cancer. Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer is very rare and extremely aggressive, occurring in only 1% of patients diagnosed with a Thyroid cancer. Due to its aggressive nature, it is most often detected and diagnosed with a terminal prognosis. Treatment is still in the clinical trial stages, as this cancer does not respond to traditional chemo therapies, and often-times, is inoperable upon diagnosis.
In the span of a couple of weeks, this family has been torn in half. They are just like any of us, living our daily lives, going to work, going to school and trying to enjoy down time together. In the wake of this torrent of emotion and heartache, Cindy Jo has been catapulted into a new role and now must figure out how she will support her family, tend to her dying husband’s affairs and more than likely sell their home. Cindy Jo is a strong woman, but even the strongest people need help.
Cindy Jo is not able to work during this time, as she needs to be by her husband’s side. We are hoping to raise a fraction of the cost of her living expenses, to give her some cushion while she deals with the loss of her best friend and life companion, and helps her children cope with the permanence of losing their daddy. Time is something you can never get back once it’s gone.
