Ed Nardone ❤️

For many of us who know Ed Nardone, we understand that he is many things to many people. For those who have yet to have the privilege of knowing Ed we hope you can can appreciate that this man is a son, husband, brother, father of four and grandfather of three beautiful grandchildren.

For a man that is seen by many to be selfless; he has faced challenges and hard times like most. But now life has hit back hard. It is at these moments when life takes its hardest shots, tests you and stretches you beyond your limits or your means. Now Ed is in the fight of his life and has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 Head and Neck Cancer.

His fight starts this week as he is set to have a feeding tube placed on this Tuesday. Over the next few weeks his fight continues with 7 weeks of radiation. This is daily travel to the nearest center that treats this condition, with each trip back and forth lasting over an hour and must be completed five days a week. Upon completion of this treatment Ed will endure 3 chemotherapy treatments over the course of 9 weeks.

For most, this challenge would be all consuming and bring most to their knees. The result of such treatments means that the man that has used his hands in labor to provide for his family can no longer do so.
No words can describe what that can do to a man that has worked very hard all his life; being unable to fulfill his role as sole provider. Our family will dedicate ourselves to his care and his wife Stacey will dedicate herself to ensure that his daily needs are met at home.

As a self employed laborer, the costs of healthcare are astronomical and we are presently applying to Medicaid and disability to help cover part of the costs. But as you may know, there are no guarantees in approval in these situations and so much that is not covered with this type of treatment and aftercare. Basic travel and home expenses are a small part of that. Beyond radiation and chemotherapy, lies continued care that include speech therapists and nutritionists to provide the exercise treatments that give Ed every opportunity to maintain his ability for speech. Something that most of us take for granted.

It’s times like these that we remember what is most important. We remember that there are times that we do onto others as we would want done to us and that there are times that we need to reach out when there are no other options. This is one of those times that we must reach out and ask for help from complete strangers (in some cases) to help Ed focus on what is most important. That is being present in the lives of those who love him the most. Focusing on his road to recovery and not feel the burden of what can be devastating medical costs in addition to what is needed to keep a household afloat.

If you are able to help, able to give a little or a lot, even provide words of encouragement or prayers, this is what we ask in this time of need. No help is too small and no help given goes without our deepest gratitude.

With much appreciation,

Kris, Krystal, Mariah, Gaby and Stacey
