Walker's Journey

On July 1st our wonderful neighbors, Ian and Nathan, found a senior canine who had wandered into their yard near the open fields of Northeast Los Angeles. Very scared, blind in one eye, anemic from his countless fleas, barely able to walk due to lack of food and water as well as arthritic pain, and matted with burrs and stickers, his terrible condition touched Ian and Nathan’s hearts. They took him in, cleaned his coat, offered him food and water and took him to a vet for a checkup. The dog had no chip. They took the pictures you can see below and shared them, trying to find the owner, but no one came forward.

We, too, were touched by the sad plight of this old soul. We agreed to bring him to live with us and take stewardship of his care. Our neighbors and friends opened their hearts too. We got help with his supplies, his initial veterinary care, and some of his medications. $825 from this campaign has already been used for those needs. It made a world of difference. Walker became healthier, stronger, happier every day.

Our main focus has been to get Walker as healthy and pain-free as possible. His blind eye was enlarged, diseased and required surgery. One of his canine teeth had become infected from years of poor diet and no hygiene, and needed to be removed. And then, he had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and had to spend the day in the Emergency Room for X-rays, blood work and observation.

The new amount for this campaign is to help with the costs for those surgeries and ER care.
