My name is Sabrina Alexis and I am an incoming senior at Coral Reef Senior High School. To fulfill my IB (International Baccalaureate) requirements, I must submit a Community Action Service (CAS) project before graduation. To that effect, I have decided to take on a challenging project that would help to provide children of “L’ école St. Pierre de Terre rouge” in Lamontagne in Jacmel, Haiti with the supplies they need to start off the September school year.
In the midst of enormous struggles that take place in Haiti, I believe that it is important for each and every child to take comfort in having the right school supplies. Although it may seem to some that access basic school supplies is a common occurrence, to others it’s something that may be difficult to acquire. Fundamental materials such as backpacks, notebooks, and pencils, are essential to a child’s learning experience, and without them, can hinder the minds that we’re educating for our future. Allowing children to have the opportunity to obtain these tools will help further their learning experiences and set the tone for their upcoming school year. My goal is to raise funds in order to provide customized backpacks to impoverished children attending L’ école St. Pierre de Terre rouge in Lamontagne in Jacmel, Haiti.
To make this project possible, I have partnered with Angel Wings International (Angelwingsinternational.com). Established since 2007, Angel Wings International provides medical and healthcare services to the people of Jacmel. Most importantly, healthcare begins at home, with children. They are very encouraging and supportive of young people, like me, who want to make a difference in the world and society.
