Ecole Ker Xaleyi - The Children’s House -

BADED (Base d’appui au Development Durable) is a Senegalese non-profit whose primary goal is to provide the children of Guinaw Rails, Senegal an education and health services. Over the years the school has been aided by volunteers from Europe and the United States as well as partnerships with European NGOs.


Founder Abdoulaye Bah’s 2018 goal for his school Ker Xaleyi (The Children’s House) is to extend school year services into the summer, providing academic enrichment for students in the morning and sporting activities in the afternoon, for children who otherwise are left to themselves.


The maxim for BADED’s 2018 program is to cultivate “a healthy mind and a healthy body.” Our contributions will provide the school with financial support to help meet their short term goals (school supplies and materials regarding the construction of the school) and long term goals (plumbing and electric infrastructure, improving upon health center, etc..)


I was fortunate enough to work with Abdoulaye Bah, BADED and the children of Ker Xaleyi during my semester abroad in 2015. Working first in a public school, it was clear the impact local associations like BADED have, where overcrowded public schools often have 90 students in one classroom to one instructor. BADED and Kery Xaleyi provide the children of Guinaw Rails with a well-rounded, bilingual education that includes academics as well as recreational activities and health services.


During my time there I was able to experience and learn so much from the children and teachers . The children were eager to learn despite the lack of resources and incomplete infrastructure of the school. Once I left in 2015 I knew my job there was not done.


On March 30th I will be traveling to Senegal to visit the school. My goal is that before my trip we are able to raise enough funds for me to bring school materials to Ker Xaleyi and provide BADED with the capital to begin investing in their long-term goals. My hope is that I, along with other NYC teachers, will be able to visit Ker Xaleyi during the summer to participate in their summer program, aid in academic classes and collaborate with our Senegalese counterparts. BADED is a special organization, committed to the education of their children and I hope to continue this flourishing partnership.

BADED (Base d'appui au développement durable) est un ONG sénégalais avec l'objectif principal de fournir aux enfants de Guinaw Rails, au Sénégal, des services d'éducation et de santé. Depuis sa fondation, l'école a été aidée par des volontaires d'Europe et des États-Unis ainsi que par des partenariats avec des ONG européennes.


L'objectif du fondateur Abdoulaye Bah pour son école Ker Xaleyi (La maison des enfants) est de prolonger les services scolaires jusqu'en été, en enrichissant académiquement les élèves le matin et en organisant des activités sportives l'après-midi pour, si non, les enfants qui sont laissés à eux-mêmes.


La maxime pour le programme BADED 2018 est de cultiver «un esprit sain et un corps sain». Nos contributions fourniront à l'école un soutien financier pour atteindre ses objectifs à court terme (fournitures scolaires et matériels pour la construction de l'école) et à long terme objectifs (infrastructure de plomberie et d'électricité, amélioration du centre de santé, etc.)


J'ai eu la chance de travailler avec Abdoulaye Bah, BADED et les enfants de Ker Xaleyi pendant mon semestre au Sénégal en 2015. Travaillant d'abord dans une école publique, il était clair que les associations locales comme BADED ont, où des écoles publiques surpeuplées dans une classe à un instructeur. BADED et Kery Xaleyi fournissent aux enfants de Guinaw Rails une éducation bilingue et complète qui inclut des cours académique ainsi que des activités récréatives et des services de santé.


Pendant mon séjour, j'ai pu avoir l'expérience et apprendre beaucoup des enfants et des enseignants. Les enfants étaient désireux d'apprendre malgré le manque de ressources et l'infrastructure incomplète de l'école. Une fois que je suis parti en 2015, je savais que mon travail n'était pas terminé.


Le 30 mars je voyagerai au Sénégal pour visiter l'école. Mon objectif est que, avant mon voyage, nous puissions récolter suffisamment de fonds pour apporter du matériel scolaire à Ker Xaleyi et fournir à BADED la capitale pour commencer à investir dans leurs objectifs à long terme. Mon espoir est que moi-même, ainsi que d'autres enseignants de New York pourront visiter Ker Xaleyi pendant l'été pour participer à leur programme d'été, aider dans les cours académiques et collaborer avec nos collègues sénégalais. BADED est une organisation spéciale, engagée dans l'éducation de ses enfants et j'espère continuer ce partenariat florissant.
