Brandy Harper (Rigsby) Benefit Fund

My sister, Brandy Harper, a 39 year old wife and mother of four, was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. On August 15, 2014, she underwent a radical hysterectomy which is a major surgical procedure that requires a minimum of 6-8 weeks recovery time. On October 20, 2014, she will begin a six week round of intravenous chemotherapy and external radiation treatments at the Cancer Center in Danville, Illinois. She will also be traveling to a specialist in Peoria, to receive internal radiation treatments in an effort to prevent the spread or reoccurrence of her illness in the future.
Brandy is self-employed. Therefore, she is facing the unfortunate circumstances of an unpaid leave of absence from her job throughout the duration of her battle with cancer. For those of you who know her well, you’re most likely aware that she has always considered her job to be a blessing because it enables her the opportunity to enhance the lives of many families throughout Central Illinois. Brandy is a Pediatric, Developmental Therapist. As such, she provides evaluations as well as therapeutic and rehabilitative services for young children who have various delays and disabilities.
For those of you who don’t know Brandy. She is one of the most kind-hearted, compassionate, and generous women I have ever met. Yes, my opinion may be biased, but there is a reason that she is known as Sweet Brandy amongst her family and friends. Brandy is an amazing sister, daughter, and friend but most importantly, she is a loving and devoted wife to her husband Mike Harper and a doting mother of four wonderful children, Gaige, Marlee, Elias, and Eva. She is the kind of girl who is always helping others during their time of need. Her selflessness extends well beyond her circle of family and friends. She has devoted countless hours volunteering for various charities and fund-raising events throughout the years and has also perpetuated many random acts of kindness for others within her community.
There isn’t a mean bone in her body. This is evident not only in the warmth and compassion that she has for her fellow man, but extends into the animal world as well. She’s a wanna-be vegetarian (if only she liked a few more veggies) because she can’t fathom the thought of slaughtering poor innocent creatures for her consumption. She has rescued and nursed many stray animals over the years and once stopped traffic to rescue a snake from certain and impending death whilst he was crossing the road! She’s the kind of girl who uses no-kill traps to ensnare trespassing mice so that she can release them unharmed and the kind of girl who will whisk an intruding spider back out doors rather than relinquish the crushing death sentence that most others would certainly impose. Considering the fact that Brandy is terrified of snakes, mice, and spiders, I believe these acts provide a glimpse of my sister’s selfless and gentle nature.
Furthermore, Brandy’s husband Mike (a talented local artist), began his own business as a self-contracted sign, canvas, and mural painter just a few months before she was diagnosed with cancer. Seemingly overnight, he has had to transition into the role of the sole provider/care-taker of their family which has considerably reduced his ability to work outside the home and earn much needed wages. As you can imagine, there is no reprieve from their monthly bills and the expenses associated with her ongoing medical treatments will be many and varied. For these reasons, I am asking for monetary donations to help see them through this difficult and uncertain time. Please help us offset their expenses by making donations to the Brandy Harper Benefit Fund at any First Financial Bank or by visiting gofundme.com. Also, please share this message with all of your facebook friends/contacts as well.
As previously mentioned, Brandy is the kind of girl who feels blessed simply by helping others. I hope that those of you who read this message will feel compelled to reciprocate her kindness. Thank you, and God Bless!
