Help Elder Care Alliance House & Support  Sonoma County Fire Evacuees

Elder Care Alliance is a non-profit senior living organization.  Our mission and faith heritage guide us to care for others, so we didn't hesitate when we got the emergency call that elders in Sonoma County desperately needed a safe place to escape the fires.

We welcomed 20 elders from Spring Lake Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Santa Rosa, CA.  We learned about it at 1 p.m. on 10/10, and they arrived with virtually nothing later that same day and the following day. We identified housing for 13 at AlmaVia of San Francisco , 7 at AlmaVia of San Rafael and another skilled nursing resident at Mercy Retirement & Care Center in Oakland.

Our team at AlmaVia of San Francisco and AlmaVia of San Rafael, with our Support Center personnel from Alameda, actually drove up to Petaluma in our vehicles and drove almost all of the evacuees to our locations.

While the transportation was happening, other team members bought literally everything for these guests – beds, bedframes, mattresses, underwear, pajamas, clothes and toiletries.  We scrambled to turn completely bare rooms into places of sanctuary.

Once they arrived, we realized most evacuees came with no documentation, no money and few medications or any other personal items. As you can imagine, this ordeal has been traumatic for all of them.

In this fluid situation, it’s unclear how long these guests may be with us.  We expect to continue to host them for at least another week. Based on current costs and estimated needs for clothing, furniture, bedding and food, we project a total need exceeding $15,000.

In addition, we have several employees who are on stand-by evacuation notices.  Any funds we collect may be used to assist them if required.

We're asking for donations of cash, but if that's not possible, please contact us with in-kind donations of clothing and bedding.
