My name is Alexi and drawing and creating stories is what I love to do! Please see all of my pictures and a couple very short videos about me and my work.
This is Jen, Alexi's mom. Myself and Alexi's dad Tim have created this page for our daughter. She lives at home with us and is 23 years old. She was diagnosed with a high functioning form of Autism at the age of 3. She is a beautiful, gentle, and kind girl who is extraordinarly gifted in drawing and story telling. (writing) We are just a normal family with three children (Alexi is the oldest). We've never received any kind of assistance for Alexi and as we look ahead, we know that this gift she has will provide an income for her as well as allow us to provide for her long term in our home. We are making plans now to be sure she is well cared for when we, her parents are no longer able to do so.
We want to see Alexi succeed in becoming more independent and that's how Alexi Art came to be. We have a long list of things needed in order for this dream to really take off for her. While thus far we've taken care of her and every need that she has, we realize that we cannot be the sole financial provider for her entire lifetime. Her dad works full time (very hard) and I (her mom) work part time because Alexi is home with us, and we feel she still needs a parental presence for some of the day. Currently we keep saying "one day when we have the money" we'll really get Alexi's art going...but life keeps ticking by and that's why we are here to share this with all of you reading this today.
*Funds are needed for legal counsel as to setting up an LLC, along with copyright protection and intellectual property patents and other legal ways to protect her images now and in the future. We've researched much online, but she will need solid legal counsel to ensure that her company is protected and branded properly.
* She needs a computer, and additional software that will enable her to take her drawings all the way from paper to sale-able works of art such as note cards, children's art work, books and prints.
*We are pursuing self publishing and and traditional publishing.
*Setting up and maintaining a professional and functional (for her) website where she can sell her work.
*Funds are also needed for the printing and distributing of her line of work. This can be a pretty large 'upfront' expense, but one that is needed so we can have her work for sale. We have several outlets that would carry her art in their stores. (See examples of her note cards below) We just first need to get the foundation prepared.
Some fun facts that you can see and hear about in her videos:
*Alexi ALWAYS uses pen, preferably black ink. She NEVER uses pencils or erases. When she does make a mistake she just "fixes" it within the drawing. And it rarely happens! Its remarkable.
*She likes plain white paper and colored pencils
*She goes through about a ream of copy paper every two weeks!
*She loves to draw whatever you ask of her...especially if it's an animal of some sort ...doing something crazy and fun.
*Alexi loves children and they are drawn to her becacuse of her sweet spririt and willingness to draw with them and create fun characters and stories. We see a future for her writing and illustrating for children's books and other mediums. We also see her as being an advocate for children and families who are living daily life with challenges such as autism. She is so delightful and full of joy, that it radiates from her....she will bring that spirit with her wherever this journey takes her....and it will bring encouragement, hope and refreshing.
We hope you enjoy the two short videos and pictures. Thank you for considering giving to Alexi and her Alexi Art dream.
