To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Ebony Smith and I will be attending Dartmouth College. I am excited to start my college career. However, this summer, I have become increasingly aware of all of the expenses not covered by my scholarship and how difficult it is and will continue to be to pay my expenses over the next four years. I have applied for many scholarships, taken the most challenging courses in high school, and graduated in the top 5% of my senior class, yet I still find myself worrying about how I am going to pay for college and buy winter clothes and supplies (graphing calculator, laptop, etc) for school.
I am the first of my siblings to attend college. My family’s legacy of poverty ends with me. In fact, the challenges I have faced thus far, have only made me more determined to achieve a superior education.
I know my story will inspire others. I know that one day when I am a successful doctor or engineer I will be able to help another student struggling financially to attend college. I know that continuing on this path to success will end my family’s precedent of adversity. If there is any financial assistance that you can give me, I would greatly appreciate it.
