Please help Ebony Ortega - a homeless college student

Ebony is a senior at San Francisco State University.

It’s been years since Ebony has had a home, she doesn’t even remember what it feels like.  And it’s been years since she’s felt some sort of comfort, security and stability.

She is desperate to do something meaningful with her life which is why she is a student at SFSU. She works long hours at Starbucks in the Financial District in downtown San Francisco which helps pay for tuition (SFSU helps pay part of her tuition costs), a car  (that she sometimes sleeps out of) and some food but beyond that, nothing else.  After her long shifts, she heads to class, and studies late into the night, never knowing where she will go when she is done. She jumps around from place to place sleeping on couches or floors, anything her friends can offer.  She is close to graduating but the stress and pressure of being homeless are a huge distraction, making it hard for her to concentrate on her studies.  She is starting to fail some classes which is not good because she only about 4 classes away from graduating. And if she fails her class, her graduation will be delayed, again.

In spite of it all, she keeps on going.  Working hard at both her job and school. She says what keeps her going is that she needs to do this for herself, for her immigrant parents.  Her parents came to the US from Mexico for a better life and she doesn’t want to waste the opportunity, she wants to make something of herself.  But, she needs help.

Some of her needs are immediate.  Ebony is in need of a place to stay.  If anyone has any ideas for her or can offer a room, she would be grateful.  She needs to pay for an upcoming smog check and, most recently, this past week, her phone broke.

Please help with anything you can.  Every single donation, no matter how small, will help her be able to buy food, gas, pay for a phone, daily necessities and hopefully a place to stay.  And, if you cannot donate, please share her story.

Thank you so much.
