Eating Disorder Charity Run: Ultra-marathon
Summary:
My friends and I are going to run, jog, walk, crawl (if need be) an Ultra-marathon along the Heysen Trail to help raise money for better Eating Disorder services in Adelaide. The money raised will be donated to the Eating Disorder Sector of the BREAKTHROUGH MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH FOUNDATION. The run is 50km and is being held on Adelaide's South Coast on October 23, 2021. We are asking our friends and family to please help us by contributing to the cause through donations. Every donation large or small will make a huge difference so we thank you in advance.
Why Have We Chosen This Foundation?
South Australia is significantly behind the eight ball when it comes to the education, treatment services, and overall management of eating disorders. Currently, South Australians suffering from eating disorders have to endure extensive waitlists for treatment services. Unfortunately, the only way for individuals to receive immediate support and treatment is if they are medically unstable which often means that these people have already caused immense strain on vital organs, often resulting in irreversible damage. The extended waitlists and lack of available resources stem from extremely underwhelming and insufficient funding towards eating disorder services. However, there is currently a new eating disorder treatment and research centre in development that will enable South Australian sufferers to receive the best possible evidence-based treatment and therapies available. This new centre is being developed with the help of the Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation and will allow more South Australians to receive the treatment and support they require.
Where Will The Money Go and How Will it Help?
The money raised will help to contribute to the development of the new eating disorder treatment and research centre as well as providing funding to facilitate further research into the best evidence-based practice regarding eating disorder treatment. All in all, your donations will help provide more opportunities for South Australians struggling with eating disorders.
