Tax Support for Eastside Seniors

The fundraising efforts is aimed at preserving housing affordability in East Austin by providing support for senior citizens who are on a fixed income. Austin's Eastside has been rapidly gentrifying in  recent years. This has resulted in rapidly increasing property values and property taxes. This situation is particulary challenging for elders in East Austin who are on a fixed income and whose economic situation only worsens as costs for taxes, utilities, prescription druges, etc. continue to rise. The East Austin Conservancy and the group, Las Comadres, have identified 5 long-time Eastside homeowners who need various forms of assistance (tax assistance, home repairs, lawncare, utility assistance, legal services, etc.). Meeting our fundraising goal will help us to provide the kind of relief that these Eastside seniors need so that they feel that they are a valued part of our community. Taxes are the bulk of the financial assistance that we will provide and tax payments are due in January, so we are asking that you consider a holiday gift to help us help these Eastside families. This will truly make the the holidays and the New Year much brighter for these homeowners all of whom have lived in their homes for 40+ years!
