This is an official fundraiser for the community of East Prairie Metis Settlement - approved by the EPMS Council.
Hi, my name is Jamie Ellsworth. I was raised in a beautiful community about 40 km south of High Prairie on the East Prairie Metis Settlement where over 300 people reside
Over the last week, Alberta was rocked by devastating forest fires. One of the areas hit was my home community. The entire Settlement was evacuated on short notice. Unfortunately we lost 29 homes during this disaster, 14 of which were actively lived in; with all of the community still on evacuation order. They will most likely remain evacuated for many more days while assessments are completed, power is restored and roads are cleared.
Most of the evacuees are being accommodated in High Prairie, however we all know this will be an incredibly hard, long and traumatic road to rebuilding with no concrete date of when they can start returning.
We try our best to be as independent as possible, but this time we need help. Any money donated, will go to those who are directly affected by this fire.
The High Prairie Friendship Center will have a place at a later date to take physical donations such as furniture and/or clothing - please see their Facebook Page for details. The High Prairie Food Bank is also open to personal items and non perishable foods.
For those interested, please be aware that I; Jamie Ellsworth am just a community member and do not benefit from the GoFundMe in any shape or form and only helping to create the GoFundMe Page on behalf of EPMS. Donna Lewis works for All-Pro bookkeepers and provides financial services to East Prairie Metis Settlement.
The funds raised will be transferred to EPMS Finance account and as emailed by the EPMS Administrator; be prioritized to the 14 members who have lost their homes. It will support them in their efforts to rebuild (lost furnishings, clothes, and the like). Not all those who lost their homes have personal GoFundMe pages set up.
The EPMS Administrator emailed confirmation that any money spent from this fundraiser will be used for recovery efforts, post wildfire, loss of homes for the 14 members and clean-up efforts.
