My aunt Dottie died on August 29, 2018.
She spent the last two years of her life battling lung, brain and, most recently, pancreatic cancer.
When I was a little girl, my uncle Bill and aunt Dottie became the self-appointed "fun adults" in my life -- and we all loved that!
When I stayed with them, I got to watch Clash of the Titans and other movies. I’d eat all kinds of junk food, drink soda, stay up late and play Night Driver on Atari for hours on end. Oh and how we loved to play board games and go camping and fishing together!
Shortly after I got my license, Dottie even let me borrow her car one day because she knew I loved driving stick. Can you imagine letting a new teen driver borrow your car?
To say that Dottie was fun, kind, and generous only scratches the surface. She was also incredibly brave and upbeat throughout her long battle with cancer.
And now my uncle Bill, Dottie's soul mate of 40+ years, begins his path to life without his best friend and love. If you've ever lost a loved one, then you know the emotional rollercoaster grief, grieving and, ultimately, healing can be. Now strap a mountain of medical expenses onto that journey.
Bill and Dottie's medical expenses are already coming, and they are well over six figures so the time is now. We can't give Bill his Dottie back.
