Hi everyone,

Turkey and Syria, the places we were born and raised, shook by two devastating earthquakes on February 6th, under very harsh winter conditions. Whatever you've heard about it in the news, we have to tell you that the situation is

MUCH MORE HORRIBLE in its scope, size, and intensity. Official accounts claim over 45,000 deaths only in Turkey, but any reasonable estimation tells us that it has to be at least 150,000.

And the story does not end with the beautiful friends and families we have lost under concrete. Currently, we are looking at more than 20 million lives affected, the total destruction of a region larger than the state of Michigan with all its resources and infrastructure, entire towns, weeks after the earthquakes, where help is yet to arrive, a huge refugee crisis, and homelessness at unprecedented scales.

Ensuring that donations are effective and reach those who need them is actually quite tricky. We have been on multiple threads with the organizers over the last days, as they worked hard to find ways to purchase and deliver urgent needs, such as water, toilets, tents, container houses, menstrual pads, underwear, medicine etc., ultimately finding several trusted medical, architect, and feminist organizations in Turkey.

We send funds to those who need help the most and are the least likely to receive it most efficiently. This includes women, lgtbqi+ folks, kids, refugees, and animals. To this end, we are collaborating with people we personally know, who are actively working in the field, and contributing to the aid and rescue efforts.
