Earthquake Relief: Jose David, CyS

Donation protected
On Thursday, September 8, just before midnight, an 8.1 earthquake hit southern Mexico, the biggest in a century. Hardest hit was the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Our dear friend and mentor, José David, founder of Calles y Sueños, awoke with parts of his ceiling falling down around him. He had to flee his home (which is also his exhibition space) in his underclothes.

The following day, José David was focused on resuming his multiple projects, and remarked: “Only a ton of cement blocks falling on my head, will stop me. An earthquake? Hell! That's not going to stop me.”

If you have ever had the pleasure of experiencing the life-changing power of cultural events at Calles y Sueños, or cherished José David’s selfless dedication to promoting Latino arts and culture, or been inspired by his extraordinary generosity, now is the time to make a generous donation to support him in this time of need and distress.

The earthquake has wreaked havoc upon José David’s modest new home and exhibition space, which he had only recently acquired and has been busily renovating and upgrading for public use. Not only was there damage to the infrastructure to the building, but also much damage to his extensive collection of books, artwork, videos, and equipment — all of which have taken him decades to collect, and are invaluable tools for his vocation as a promoter of arts and culture as a means of liberation.

Please donate to show your appreciation for José David and to advance the important work that he is doing, any amount will be greatly appreciated.
