RAISING FUNDS FOR SAGAING:
Hi, my name is Lily. I’m an American student currently studying in a Thai International University, where the majority of my peers and friends are from Myanmar. Recently, there has been a devastating 7.7 magnitude Earthquake in Myanmar. Since the earthquake, I have seen how all of the people closest to me have been affected. Everyone I know has suffered some loss. As students, there is not much we can do from another country, however through our voices I hope we can spread the word as we please ask for help. Below is a message from a student whose family and home was affected in Myanmar.
“Hi, I'm Kyle. I figured every one of you has heard about the tragic news in Myanmar. Right now, we need to raise money for the people in my hometown, which is in the epicenter of earthquake. 80% of Sagaing has been destroyed. The second largest city, Mandalay, which is 18 km far from my home has been cut off from our town since the main bridge collapsed. Because of this, we currently cannot receive aide or resources to survivors, and those loved ones that were lost cannot be recovered from the collapsed buildings. Families are unable to give proper funerals to their loved ones or grieve. So, I'm asking for your help.”
With the current Civil War situation in the country, citizens are still being arrested by military forces and air strikes on the people have not stopped. Less than 3 hours after the initial earthquake, airstrikes were conducted by the military on Naungcho in Northern Shan state.
With the donation funds we receive, we will be able to directly provide resources such as food and medical supplies by ship from the main city to Sagaing, and provide help to the people in need during this difficult time
