Early-Onset Alzheimer's Family Help
Donation protected
Tim Johnson was just 55 years old when he was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's disease. Since then, he has been valiantly fighting the disease by continuing his active lifestyle and staying as fit as possible.
Many in our area know that Tim recently went for a short walk, got disoriented, and spent 30 hours out in the cold of Denver, walking over 12 miles. This confusion and wandering are a frequent component of Alzheimer's progression. His family is so grateful to all in the community who mobilized to bring Tim home safe.
Now they need to move forward with a more intense care plan to keep Tim active, engaged and safe. Studies show that adult day programs for those with Alzheimer's not only provide safe, meaningful activities, but also provide a protective factor against disease progression. There are many such programs in the Denver area.
The lifetime cost of Alzheimer's care is astronomical, a burden more than most families can bear, especially when the loved one diagnosed has lost years of earning potential and there are children in college. Tim’s wife, Stacie, and their girls have adjusted work and school schedules and sacrificed so much social and personal time. We want to provide the funds for Tim to benefit from more hours in these important care programs.
Just as importantly, this will provide his family more respite time so they can stay strong and healthy through this difficult journey. The family’s time for exercise, engaging with support groups, and being with friends is not a luxury for Alzheimer's caregivers – it is essential for loved ones dealing with the emotional suffering and exhaustion of this caregiving. His family needs the opportunity to put on the oxygen mask first so they can be there for Tim.
Tim's Team (a group of concerned friends of the family) is asking for financial assistance to cover the daily engagement care that is critical to Tim's emotional health and safety, and to enable the family to gather more strength for this long road ahead. Let’s be a strong community for the Johnson-McMullen family! Thank you so much.
