Eagle Scout Project – “TIM TALK - disABILITY AWARENESS”

Hi, my name is Tim, and I am currently working towards the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 140, Buffalo Grove, IL. Obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout is no easy task and requires a lot of planning, dedication, creativity, follow-through, and passion. While this rank is highly revered and coveted by The Boy Scouts of America (Scouts BSA), it is not an easy rank to achieve based on many different criteria, rules, community obligations, and so much more.

You may wonder why I am reaching out for donations for my Eagle Scout Project or what makes this cause worthy of a generous donation; let me tell you why. My project is more than a checklist of tasks that I can complete and then walk away from being unable to see the true impact; it is a passion project that will help families and the community for years to come. Allow me to elaborate.

I have Autism, and many families that receive a diagnosis of any disability, including Autism, scramble to find resources and the best care for their child or another family member. My family was no exception to this experience. In fact, 1:10 children are diagnosed with a disability ranging from physical to hidden disabilities such as cognitive or learning disabilities. My Eagle Scout Project aims to bring awareness to these varying disabilities from trusted professionals in their respective fields and provide resources for the community regarding where to go for specific needs, disability types, or treatments.

For my Eagle Project, I plan to host/lead a free seminar on Saturday, January 14th, 2023, educating the community about “Ability Awareness.” This seminar is for and about people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I plan to have eight guest speakers speak for 15 minutes on various topics such as autism, mobility, services for special needs and more. In addition, those who attend this seminar will be provided with a resource directory/booklet. This booklet will provide resources (local companies which provide a variety of services throughout the area). This booklet can then be shared with others in the community, creating a more significant support directory. Currently, I have over 35 companies that I will be reaching out to be included in this booklet. Overall, my hope is that 50+ companies will be listed and that 250+ people will attend.

I am humbly asking for your kind support as funding is needed for the costs related to making this free seminar a reality, including but not limited to costs to rent the theater space and purchase flyers, posters, booklets, and other supplies needed to complete this project.

Please consider donating to my Eagle Scout Project, which is one of passion, service, and community.

Sincerely,
Tim Everett
