Eagle Scout Project: Alameda Public Piano

Hi, my name is Nathaniel Basco and I am a Life Scout with Alameda Troop 11 on my path to Eagle Scout. My Boy Scout Eagle Project is to create a public piano installation along the Bay Trail at Bridgeside Shopping Center (near Nob Hill Foods grocery store).  A public piano is an outdoor piano open to anyone willing to play.  I am excited to have the piano painted by local Alameda artist, Deirdre Freeman. 

My fundraising goal of $1500 will help cover the costs involved in this project, which include:

• Professional piano movers--3 moves
• Piano tuner
• Plywood, wheels, bolts, screws, to build a durable rolling dolly
• Exterior house paint, anti-graffiti coating, and other supplies

Dates for the installation will be July 17 - August 7. During this time, area piano teachers, their students, and local musicians of all levels are are welcome to perform.

Anchor Alameda Association for Art and Film is the nonprofit beneficiary of this Eagle Project. Their mission is "to foster and develop artistic projects in the City of Alameda, help local artists connect to a broader audience, and facilitate affordable public access to new visual, performing, literary and cinematic art and culture."  Any funds beyond my goal will go to Anchor Alameda.  All donations are tax deductible.

Music has influenced who I am and I believe this Eagle Project can help bring the Alameda community together after 17 months of COVID-19 restrictions and isolation. Thank you for supporting my Eagle project.

Inspiration for this project is from my opportunity to play a public piano in the San Francisco Botanical Gardens in 2019:
