GOFUNDME campaign is officially over at of 1/4/21. Thank you for all of the amazing support.  As progress is completed, updates will be sent out.

GOFUNDME GOAL REACHED in 12 hours! Amazing support.  As mentioned, any additional funds donated will go directly to the teacher and students.

My name is Zachary Schmid, and I am a Life Scout working towards the final rank, Eagle Scout. There is a story that happened in London in 1909, a Chicago publisher William Boyce was lost in the fog when a Boy Scout came to his aid. After guiding Boyce to his destination, the boy refused a tip, explaining that as a Boy Scout he would not accept payment for doing a good deed.   In order to earn my Eagle Scout rank, I need to complete an Eagle Scout Project as my good deed for the community.

The project I chose to do is to help the Moderate/Severe Special Needs Class at Roosevelt Middle School and turn an old storage closet into a comfort room for the students to relax and calm down. Currently, the class does not have a comfort room for their students. When I learned about this I wanted to help them since I know that kids with special needs always need a break to reduce stress. I also chose this project because of my brother, Talen. Talen is a student with Special Needs at Roosevelt Middle School, and we are in the same Boy Scout Troop. He has never really been able to talk.  When I was younger, I would always wish that one day he could talk. I watched my parents try so many different therapists and programs. This project is also a thank you to the school and teacher of the class for helping my brother and the other students and their families.

For the comfort room, I want to give the class washable, tear-resistant bean bags, at least one cocoon swing, weighted blankets, and a storage bench to house the blankets and supplies.  I also intend to get Bluetooth controllable LED lights.  Finally, the room will be painted in an underwater theme. In order to achieve this goal, I am going to need to raise $2000.  Any donation will be greatly appreciated as it will help me get a step closer to making this a reality.

I want to thank you in advance for taking your time to read my letter.  Your time is valuable, and should you decide to donate, my brother, his classmates, and their families, will be very grateful. Any leftover money will be given to the Moderate/Severe Special Education class because I am just like the Boy Scout who helped William Boyce in 1909, I cannot accept any payments to me because I am doing my good deed.  Nine years ago I became a Scout and began my journey towards becoming an Eagle Scout. I am so grateful to have any support to make my dream a reality.
