Eagle Project: Cincinnati Zoo

Hi,

My name is Noah White and I have been a Scout since I was in Kindergarten. I am currently raising money for my Eagle Project which will be completed in partnership with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Here is a description of my project.

My Project:

I have worked with the Cincinnati Zoo and CCHMC to design new communication boards that will be installed in the Children's Zoo. We are raising money to fund eight of these signs to be installed. These signs will have PECS graphics, ASL, and different languages about an item or object in the Children's Zoo area.

PECS graphics are Picture Exchange Communication Signs that people who may not be able to speak verbally can point to and identify an interest they want to share with another person who may not otherwise understand them.

ASL is American Sign Language. I have been taking ASL for three years in high school and my sister also uses ASL to communicate with our family and her peers.

It is important for me to share with everyone that there are many different forms of communication in which people use to express their thoughts and ideas. I have learned that we can all communicate with each other and become a more inclusive community if we share the different types of communication that are available for everyone to use. This project is a way for me to help build an inclusive experience within the Children's Zoo for people with all abilities.

I hope that you can support my project. Any donation will be welcome and none are too small. If, I raise more money than I need the remaining balance of this project will be donated to the Cincinnati Zoo in the hope this project can be carried throughout the rest of the zoo.
