Silver Linings for Jake and Julie Wier

This is my sister Julie Wier and her soulmate Jake Wier.  In November of 2020, Jake was diagnosed with Stage IV Squamous Cell Carcinoma and given two months to two years to live. Our hopes are for remission, which will require aggressive treatment.

The tumor was found in his psoas muscle by an enlarged kidney, but that is never a primary source of cancer, so his medical team is investigating several spots found on his lungs and conducting additional tests. Meanwhile, he is experiencing severe nerve pain, along with a myriad of other symptoms. Due to the severity of his medical condition, Jake can no longer work and will lose the insurance carrying his family. They obtained new insurance that will start in the New Year, but have yet to see what expenses will be covered or if any treatments will be excluded. As such, we are campaigning to raise $60,000 to help them cover treatments and unforeseen medical costs, as well as monthly living expenses which are now reduced to a one person income.

Julie and Jake are beautiful souls as individuals, but they are even better together with their blended family of three beautiful children. He is a gentle giant, a huge baseball fan, an excellent guitarist, and lover of music, with a keen sense of humor and generous spirit. Prior to his cancer diagnosis, back in 2007, Jake recovered from a lung disease called streptococcus coupled with empyema (pyothorax or purulent pleuritis), and then in 2016, Jake developed ulcerative colitis. Given all he already has overcome, we are praying that he can also kick this latest challenge!

Jake and Julie are grateful people who count their blessings. Despite this horrible situation, they find things to be thankful for every day; instead of living in fear, they are being proactive. They are a spiritually attuned family who believe in the power of prayer and different healing modalities. Julie and Jake have not been given nearly enough time together, though they appreciate every second they have had in each other’s company, and treasure every memory. Each morning, Julie thanks God for another day with Jake.
