Hurricane Maria Relief for Lares PR
Dear Family and Friends,
As you may have heard, the island of Puerto Rico was hit by two hurricanes this month. Hurrican Irma made landfall on the North East corner of the island and not even a two weeks later, Hurricane Maria made a direct hit to the island engulfing the entire island by its massive destructive force.
The entire island of Puerto Rico is without POWER!
My family has been desperate to hear from our family members in the town of Lares, Puerto Rico. As I type this, we still have not yet heard from everyone. Our parents grew up on this beautiful and tropical island in a remote mountain town where the Colón Family (Dad's) had a coffee plantation and raised their children to enjoy the beautiful forest vegetation and the Lopez Family (Mom's) had a fruit vending and trucking company and raised their children to be active citizens involved in their communities. Both sides of our family have 30+ year veterans of the US Army and have always been proud to be US citizens. As 1st generation Americans, we have come to love our home away from home and are devasted by the loss our family has felt.
The Puerto Rico that we knew yesterday is no longer there. The people of the island will have to reconstruct, rebuild and be very resilient in the next year to overcome these almost insurmountable burdens. They will have to use not only their bodies but their hearts and souls to survive and push forward. Keeping their faith in God above all else.
My family and I are reaching out to each of you to help raise money to provide assistance to our aunts and uncles in Lares that will need to repair their homes and survive without power for the next 6 months. The money we raise will help replace windows, doors, roofs, purchase food, water, generators and any necessary supplies. We will keep everyone posted on how we distribute these funds and what was purchased.
