Project Find 250 Friends

The Yurok Tribe is the largest surviving Tribe of California origin; we maintain our homelands in the North on the banks of the Klamath River. We have an established justice system that is working to develop modern practices which reflect our longheld village values of stewardship for our people and our environment. Our system is very dependent on federal grant funding which is mercurial in the extreme; for instance we have lost funding for our legal services programs, both criminal and civil. These very successful programs in their 3 years have served a total of 755 people with 2 lawyers. We created model MOU’s with surrounding counties, diverted numerous criminal defendants, worked to rehabilitate many adjudicated defendants and had a fully operational civil access center with clients in state and tribal courts. We are asking for help to continue these programs, we need a total of $250,000, and would appreciate support in any amount.
