Help us repair our home

Hello Everyone! I've started this page in hopes of raising money to help get our 1906 Victorian home in down town Napa back to being livable again. On August 24, 2014 at 3:20am a 6.0 earth quake hit south Napa. It was the most terrifying 20 seconds of our lives. We could hear the house moving, glass breaking, things falling over, all on top of the roar of the earthquake itself. The power had gone out almost immediately leaving us in the dark to get to both of our kids. We were able to get to our son pretty easy but our daughter’s room was more difficult to get to. One of her doors the lock had broken and we were unable to open it, the other a large section of the plaster wall had fallen along with a fish tank. We had to move both to get to her door and after several strong tugs were able to reach her. Her bed was 3feet from the wall which it had been against. We wrapped both kids in blankets and put them in our living room then made a quick walk through of our house to check the damage. Every room we walked into was like being hit in the stomach over and over. Every wall in the house was cracked, chunks missing or had fallen all together. Nothing was left on the walls; the kitchen was full of broken plates, glasses, vases... We had lost both of large fish tanks that were home to our 3 turtles, a 100 gallon tank in our front room and a 55 gallon in our bedroom. The damage to the house was over whelming, I could hardly take into fact that not only was our home destroyed but so were all of our belongings. We were able at day light to go back into the house after leaving for safety reasons. Once day light had made its way in and we could see the full scope of the damage done, there are no words to describe what I felt. You see I grew up in that house, I've lived there for 26 years and now I'm raising my own family it. To see the house I love ripped apart and damaged the way it was, was heartbreaking. We started clean up that day; we were unable to save our 3 big rugs. Had to rip up both bedroom carpets, rip down walls that had hanging plaster. We had to move almost all our belongings that were left out of the house. The city came by several days later to inspect our house and we ended up being yellow tagged. Pretty much what that means is we can enter the house but we need to be careful ( no sleeping allowed.) We stayed with family the first week after the quake and since then we've been living in our travel trailer in our drive way. We have a great group of friends who gave up their Labor Day weekend away to help rip down walls and hang sheetrock. Material cost is the biggest expense we have now. On top of the floor to ceiling remodel that is now needing to be done, we have to buy items for every room. Our dressers, bedding, furniture, tables, kids toys, all destroyed. Our small savings account is almost gone and I’m hoping to raise enough on here to help us make our house livable again so that we can start the healing for our children who have been very upset by the fact their lives have been turned upside down and still trying to manage their everyday life of school and sports. Any amount you can spare well be greatly appreciated. Thank you
