Foundation for Peace

Hello everyone,

My name is Nadya Leniw and I am a nursing student in Rutgers University's accelerated program.  I have an amazing opportunity to volunteer with Foundation for Peace in the Dominican Republic from November 17-22 through Rutgers.  Nursnig students, myself included, and faculty will be operating managed clinics in underserviced areas of the Dominican Republic to improve health promotion and chronic disease management for this population.  These clinics are often held in schools, churches, or other public buildings and will serve between 300 and 700 people a day.  We will also have the opportunity to go out into these impoverished communities to make home health visits to those who cannot make it to the clinics.  During our time there we will be supplying the families we meet with basic health supplies, toiletries, and basic sanitary needs, in addition to medicines specific to the needs of the community to prevent the continued prevalence of fungus and parasites.  As we give the supplies we will be doing necessary health teaching to these families on topics like water safety, preventing the spread of disease, and other basic health topics.  
Any donations (tax-deductible) will help pay for medical supplies, care packages, medications, as well as travel and lodging expenses.  No donation is too small and will be greatly appreciated.
