What is Europe to you?, Cosa significa l’Europa per te?
Questa è la domanda che mi sono chiesta nel 2019 quando ho iniziato il mio viaggio fotografico itinerante nelle principali città e capitali europee.
Ad ogni persona che incontro nei quartieri centrali e periferici porgo la stessa domanda: “Che cos'è l'Europa per te?”. Un ritratto e una parola chiave riassumono la loro idea di Europa.
Questo lavoro vuole rappresentare il sentimento europeo in città diverse in questo importante momento storico attraverso un dialogo tra immagini e parole legate alle storie di ogni individuo come parte di una comunità senza limiti di nazionalità, professione, background sociale e culturale.
In particolare dopo il primo lockdown- Covid-19- sono emersi da parte delle persone che vivono in Europa (e che insieme stanno affrontando questa situazione di emergenza e rinascita) nuove esigenze e consapevolezze che intendo cogliere e condividere attraverso questo progetto che vede la tematica Europa cambiare forma e priorità assumendo sempre maggiore importanza nella nostra vita quotidiana e nell’immaginare il nostro futuro insieme.
Il lavoro è iniziato ad Atene e a Berlino nel 2019, è proseguito a Milano nel 2020 a Roma e a Verona nel 2020 e nell’isola di Ventotene nel maggio 2021.
Durante il lockdown è nato lo sviluppo digital del progetto grazie anche alla collaborazione con gli studenti del Master in Design the Digital Strategy del Politecnico di Milano per coinvolgere i cittadini anche on-line.
Questo lavoro si propone di creare e sollecitare un legame più diretto tra cittadini e istituzioni, intende focalizzare l'attenzione sul processo di inclusione e partecipazione sociale in modo democratico tramite nuove modalità di fruizione, partecipazione (fisica e digitale) e condivisione, dare testimonianza di una nuova consapevolezza da parte del cittadino nei confronti dell’Europa a fronte di un contesto sociale e storico mutato radicalmente e in continua trasformazione.

Fino ad ora il progetto è stato autofinanziato e sostenuto da privati.
Per poterlo realizzare anche nelle altre capitali europee stiamo cercando nuovi fondi tramite l'associazione no-profit The Art of Nets.
Abbiamo stimato un costo di 8.000 € per ogni città per sostenere i costi principali di:
- realizzazione del reportage (viaggio per 6-7 giorni per capitale x 1 persona): 2.500€
- impostazione, traduzioni, stampa del libro (circa 80 pagine per città, 250 copie): 3.500€
- stampa delle fotografie (carta Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk, 310 GSM, baritata superficie seta (30 ritratti per città), cornici per le mostre e presentazioni: 2.000€
Tutti i sostenitori del progetto (con donazione superiore a 50€) verranno ringraziati all’interno del libro che pubblicheremo e sul sito ufficiale.
Per un importo superiore ai 100€ verrà donata copia del libro firmato.
Per importi superiori ai 500€ verranno donati: un libro firmato e un ritratto firmato e numerato stampato su carta Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk, 310 GSM, baritata superficie seta (ed. numerata), misura 30x45cm.
Per importi superiori ai 1.000€ verranno donati: 5 copie del libro firmate, una serie limitata di 5 ritratti (misura 20x30cm) stampati su carta Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk, 310 GSM, baritata superficie seta.
Per importi superiori a 2.500€ si propone di organizzare una mostra e una presentazione con 30 opere delle diverse città in un luogo da concordare insieme all’associazione.
La prossima città dove realizzare il progetto vorrebbe essere Vienna! E poi Parigi, Budapest, Madrid.

What is Europe to you?
That's the question I have asked myself in 2019 when I started my traveling photo reportage of the main European cities and capitals.
I have talked to hundreds of people of different ethnicities, social backgrounds, cultures and religions.
Through a mapping of the cities, I approached men, artists, students, entrepreneurs, professors, refugees, intellectuals and volunteers etc... asking them the same question: What is Europe to you?
Each person is portrayed highlighting the keyword that summarizes his idea of Europe, reported in a short interview.
Image and word thus enter into close dialogue.
The aim is to capture portraits and feelings that characterize different cultures and languages, to strengthen the idea of the European identity.
The project started in 2019 in Athens (on the occasion of the Greek parliamentary elections) and in Berlin (for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the wall, and then continued with Milan (March 2020), Verona, Rome (July 2020) e the island of Ventotene (May 2021).

Until today the project has been self-financed and supported by private individuals.
In order to continue it in the other european capitals the no-profit Association "The Art of Nets" is looking for new funds.
We have stimated a total cost of € 8.000 for each city including:
- photo-reportage (6-7 travel days for each capital x 1 person): € 2.500
- layout, translations, book printing (about 80 pages per city, 250 copies): € 3.500
- the photo printing (Ilford Galerie Gold Fiber Silk paper, 310 GSM, baryta silk surface (30 portraits per city), and frames for the upcoming exhibitions: € 2.000
All the supporters of the project (with donations exceeding € 50) will be thanked on the published book and on the official website.
For an amount exceeding € 100 a copy of the signed book will be donated.
For amounts exceeding € 500, a signed book and a signed and numbered portrait printed on Ilford Galerie Gold Fiber Silk paper, 310 GSM, baryta silk surface (limited ed.), size 30x45cm, will be donated.
For amounts over € 1.000 we will donate: 5 signed copies of the book, a limited series of 8 portraits (size 20x13cm) printed on on Ilford Galerie Gold Fiber Silk paper, 310 GSM, baryta silk surface.
For amounts over € 2.500 we proposte to organize an exhibition and a presentation with 30 works from the different cities in a location to be agreed with the association.
The next city to carry out the project would be Vienna! And then Paris, Budapest, Madrid.
