Dear Family and Friends,
After being misdiagnosed for almost a year and feeling really sick with fatigue, constant cough, body aches, shortness of breath, and lungs with pulmonary nodules, my friend Amanda finally got her diagnosis, Extranodal Marginal Zone B-Cell Lymphoma (MALT=Mucosa Associated Lymphoid Tissue), a very rare form of cancer. Her case was so baffling and elusive that her case was presented to a conference of specialist and pathologist, and ultimately sent to the Mayo Clinic to assist in achieving an answer.
Amanda is an amazing wife and mother of four children including one in middle school and one in high school. She is still working as a nurse and taking care of very sick people in ICU with a great smile and positive attitude and has not shown her fear while facing this cancer. Unfortunately, her treatments will not allow her to work for a while, and cause periods of intermittent work. Her family has already consolidated all household expenses to the best of their ability, however she still has to pay for on-going medical bills for at least the next three years. As a nurse she says, "I should be taking care of people, I can't accept people's kindness!", so I decided to step in.
