Susan Keener Walker Memorial Fund

My mother was born and raised in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. Mom grew up on Walnut Creek Road and had a favorite spot beside the creek where she spent countless moments during her life praying, reading, or just relaxing.  No matter where Mom lived throughout her life, this was home to her.  

Last fall I brought my mother, my sister, and my sister's newborn son to Minnesota to live with my family and I after they had fallen on hard times and needed a place to get on their feet.  
Mom was incredibly home sick for her mountains and Walnut Creek ever since moving here, and hoped to return there one day.
 
Unfortunately, Mom's health took a sharp turn for the worse at the end of May 2015 and she was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Mom's health continued to decline and on July 3rd she collapsed and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. 
Mom was admitted to the medical ICU with pneumonia and sepsis. A CT scan showed that the cancer had spread aggressively throughout the body and her right lung was full of tumor and had collapsed. 
Multiple specialists reviewed the case and determined that the cancer was so aggressive that there was no curative treatment that would help. 

Mom began Hospice care and was admitted to a nursing home on July 10, 2015.

On September 1, 2015 Mom's journey came to an end; she wanted to have her ashes spread by Walnut Creek so that she will be at home after she goes Home.

This fundraiser has been helping pay for the expenses related to Mom's care and now that her Earthly journey has come to an end it is a memorial fund.
We want to be able to spread Mom's ashes by the creek and have a private memorial service for her so monies raised will help us do so.
