In Memory of Paul Scott

Paul was a much loved member of our family. Husband, son, son- and brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, godfather, friend. He was 32 years old. Unfortunately, on 30th of June 2021, Paul ended his life after experiencing a mental health crisis.

What does that mean? Well, Paul wasn't suffering from a mental illness. He wasn't on any medication or receiving any treatment. Generally, although there were stressful things happening in his life, he was well. Life was turning a corner - he had renovated his family home, he had left his work to start his own business and was making plans for growing this. We know how often this is said, but Paul is really the last person we thought this would ever happen to.

Paul was incredibly caring, generous, and kind. He was the most patient person with all the children in the family, and not afraid to take on a dare or be silly if it meant making others laugh. He was the first person to offer if you were in need of help.

And so, in his memory, we want to raise money for Andy's Man Club - particularly the local group in St Andrew's, Fife. As Covid-19 restrictions have changed how funerals are organised, we felt this was the easiest way to take a collection. Andy's Man Club was established in 2016 after the tragic loss of Andrew Roberts to suicide aged 23. They facilitate non-professional peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and Scotland for any man over 18 to attend. They provide a confidential, non-judgemental space for men to come together to chat about anything that they would like to get off of their chest. They have no waiting list, no referral or signing in process. Andy's Man Club has helped many men open up, and there are many who credit it with helping them to turn their lives around. It is our hope that by raising money for them, Paul's legacy can be to help other men who are struggling.
