Koby has a history of cancer that no child should go through. It's been 11.5 years since his first initial cancer diagnoses and his family just received shattering news of another cancer diagnosis. This time a different type that is rare in children his age.
Koby is a typical 12 year old boy that spends most of his time hanging out with his two brothers playing basketball, baseball, football and video games. Very often he goes to the local skate park to ride his scooter and spend time with his friends.
Everything changed when Koby was experiencing some pain and was sent to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, with what they thought was appendicitis. Although they did see an inflamed appendix, through scans they found a mass on Koby’s stomach. 10 days later Koby underwent surgery to remove this mass. His parents, Tony and Candace held their breath waiting for the pathology results. On December 16th, they heard words that no parent should hear “malignant tumor” and “cancer”. Koby was diagnosed with a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, a malignant tumor that is rare in children.
Koby will stay strong and fight the battle needed beat this. He already fought for his life at an early age. At the tender age of six months Koby was diagnosed with Nephroblastoma also known as Wilms tumor. He went through surgery to have his kidney removed and underwent chemotherapy.
Koby is known as a kindhearted sweet boy that will do anything for anyone.
Kobys parents Tony and Candace have always helped others in the community, with out hesitation, they will do anything for anyone that needs help. Not only has this taken a tremendous emotional toll on their family, it has also impacted them financially.
