~Help My Mom Save Her House~

Donation protected
My mother is my life. She gave me life. From the time i knew who mom was, I knew she was my everything. Literally from as far as I can think back, as far as comprehension will take me, I knew mom was my best friend. This woman has given everything. A young mother has her first child at 18. Instead of relying on the system to take care of it, she bucks up and stares reality in the face. she owns up to her decision. Pushing life aside she raises this young boy with nothing but the help of his father, and her 9-5. From there-on she has 2 more sons, 3 years apart. From then she made the same decision..."push life aside, these boys are my everything"
Forward past many years of parent teacher conferences, chorus recitals, band recitals, school musicals, kids moving out, kids moving back in, terrible divorce, grandma once, grandma twice, grandma 3 times etc.
Now This strong woman, who put life aside has a chance to resume life.
Mom put herself through college for 4 years. I remember seeing her study for hours and hours. This is one thing she set her heart on and she was letting nothing get in the way. She earned a 4.0 in school then became an electrical engineer at a local power company. She made great money. And saved a lot of it.
Forward THREE months....
Momma was diagnosed with degenerative bone disease, her spine was pretty much disintegrating. Dr. says she is disabled...forever. No more work, no more play, no more anything. All that school, all that hard work...for nothing. I really never comprehended the pain, and the anguish she felt. A woman whom I never saw cry. A Woman stronger than any man I've ever met. She was devastated.
Mom had a tough road from that point.
Bills started accumulating pretty fast as her control on life started spiraling down. With only a small unemployment check coming in now, mom had to live off the money she put away. The first thing she does, is pay off the mortgage on her house. The house is pretty much all she had.
At this time mom was advised to file for permanent disability.
We all know how long that takes. Dr. appointments to prove she has mesh holding her spine in place, to prove that all the bolts and screws were actually there. Court hearings, more dr. appointments etc. The state wanted to make sure that my mother wasn't just faking the fact that she could barely walk.
The state played this game of ring-around-the-rosy with her. Then denied her. Thanks NEW YORK STATE. At this point mom is nearing the end of her unemployment cycle as well and once again NEW YORK STATE "saved the day" as her unemployment was cut, done.
Now my mom was really in a slump, depression set in pretty quickly. She worked all her life raising children, grandchildren, herself. For this moment... Can you imagine what must have been going through her head.
Anyways. Forward another game of ring around the rosy with NYS.
I've now been helping mom out with bills for about a year, along with her sisters and parents. Just doing what we can to keep her afloat as best as we can. Even though her mortgage is paid, the property taxes are accumulating pretty quickly. She does what she can to pay the little bit that she can. But still this isn't enough. Threat after threat to take her house, payment plan after payment plan to try to help and a helpless woman trying to sort it all out.
Finally now, her disability was approved, a mere $230 a week. NYS decided that this was enough to survive.
At this point she was hurting still. So she decided to take up a hobby/income generator that she had been wanting to for years. She starting making Jewelry. Beautiful pieces too. Mom always had a natural gift when it came to creativity and art. She sat in her jewelry room (my brothers old bedroom) for hours a day creating this beautiful work and honing her craft.
She didn't make too much selling her jewelry, she really didn't have a good outlet. but she made quite a bit of it.
It was good to see that she at least found something that she loved to do, and that she was happy doing it.
About a year later my mom was told that she will receive a check for the amount of time she waited for and denied her disability. This was her chance to finally pay off some bills, get some much needed repairs done on the house. And pay off her property taxes.
The check came in, and mom did exactly that. Fixed the roof, fixed leaking pipes, new insulation, fixed her shower, paid off loans against the house.
She was pretty behind on the taxes, so she set up a payment plan with the county that would allow her to pay $3,200 up front (20% of the total she owes) and the rest would be divided up into the remaining months.
She had about $3,500 left. Cash.
One night when she wasn't home, her oldest son (my brother) went into her house, and stole all the money.
She had the cash hidden very well, but somehow my brother knew exactly where to look.
Talking to my mother that night, it sounded like she took a blow right to the chest. I didn't realize how serious it hit her until she told me that the cash was going to be used to pay the taxes.
All that money she poured back into her house. For this.
Her house is to be sent to the auction on September 27, 2014 if she doesn't have the $3,200 by September 18,2014
My mother, is once again devastated. Knocked right back under water when she was just coming up for air. Here is a woman who once again may lose her house and this time it's because of someone who couldn't care less about the well being of their mother.
Here I sit on September 5, 2014 writing this letter, hoping that it will somehow make a difference. I'm lost for my mother. I can't let her lose everything she has, and fought for. For so long she has helped me through all my problems, and done nothing but good for me. Now it's time I return the favor.
