A weekend ago, Nicholas Jesus Hernandez, our youngest family member of 9 months, was rushed to the emergency room. After several tests, doctors announced that Nico suffered from a very rare type of cancer-Neuroblastoma.
(Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that starts in certain very early forms of nerve cells found in an embryo or fetus. This type of cancer occurs most often in infants and young children.) American Cancer Society 2018.
This type of cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control and can spread to other areas of the body as it did with Nico. 3 total stage 4 cancerous tumors were discovered and his condition worsened day by day. After only 2 chemotherapy sessions, Nico’s body reacted negatively. Today, January 11th, our family was informed that due to internal bleeding, Nico had been taken in for emergency surgery. The surgery came to a halt, when there was a dangerous drop in his oxygen level and heart rate, leaving doctors no option, but to abort the surgery half-way through its completion. As one can only imagine the extreme amount of pain of a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and every family member within our tight knit family has felt. To see an infant of such age suffer this way is unbearable. For this reason we are asking for your help.
