James’ Fight Against Cancer

As many of you know, my wife and I recently made a trip to the ER for severe pain in my lower back from a herniated disc. What was discovered unfortunately was that the pain I was having was actually from a large mass in my left pelvic region. When a doctor comes in and says he has some bad news, your mind just stops but to hear these words that you’ve never thought you’d ever be faced with just doesn’t register, it doesn’t feel real. So many questions were running through my mind. The hows, the whys and the hardest one... what is going to happen to me?
This is one of the hardest things no doubt that I will ever go through. My diagnosis- high grade B cell lymphoma. At the age of 30. It was a surprise for us to hear that and to wonder how it could ever happen to me. I’m trying to take it one day at a time, have faith and get the help I need.
It isn’t an easy task for me to ask or accept help, I would like to think we could stay afloat on our own but this just isn’t something we could have ever prepared for. I’m thankful to have a job to eventually return to but for now I will be out of work for what I imagine will be quite a while without any active disability benefits and very limited insurance coverage. So as difficult as it’s been we’ve had to come to terms that we will be needing help through this. Whatever the form may be, whether it’s support by simply reaching out, prayer, donations for treatment or helping my family to get by, we’ll be beyond grateful for any and all of the support we will receive.
My first appointment is this week at Md Anderson. I am hopeful to be on the right track to my recovery. Thank you for everyone’s prayers. I’m going to continue to turn to God for strength through all this. And I’m going to fight as hard as I can for my family, my friends, my wife and especially our two little girls so that once again I can live a normal life. Thank you and God bless.
