With A Little Help From Our Friends

update 16/07: Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this project so far, we are seriously overjoyed that in just 3 days we reached £1000!   Shall we see if we can get to £2K?!

There were glimmers of hope this week that live music events may be able to start up again but there is still so much uncertainty over safety. London’s culture and creative industries generate £58.4bn and provide one in six jobs in the capital. 1 in 6! It was important to us to not only support musicians but all the people involved in the live events industry. The people behind the scenes from lighting and audio-visual engineers to show callers.  It was important to us for this reason that we raise money for Help Musicians who not only support musicians but also anyone involved in music production.

Thank you for helping to spread the word and for you support!

The London Ukulele Project's
mission is to use music to bring people together to build communities, build confidence and combat loneliness. We also believe that music should be available to EVERYONE regardless of your age, race, and background and that the ukulele is the perfect instrument for this due to its accessibility and affordability. You also can’t help but smile when you play the ukulele!

As we are unable to bring people together in our normal way we have invited a number of ukulele artists who would have been performing at festivals over the summer to record ‘With a little help from my friends’ in the style of Joe Cocker. We then invited ukulele players to join in the final chorus. We have ended up with over 100 players from up and down the UK, Ireland, Germany and USA.

The single will be available to download on all the usual shop fronts from 20th August 2020. No cheating………90% of it was recorded on people’s telephones!

Profits from downloads and streaming revenue will be split:

50% NHS Charities Together

48% Help Musicians (which help all aspects of the live music industry - lighting, sound engineers etc, 100% is going to those affected by the current pandemic)

2% London Ukulele Project

50% to NHS Charities Together, 48% to Help Musicians, 2% to us.

As the national membership organisation for NHS Charities, NHS Charities Together represent, champion and support more than 140 member charities. £5 could fund a hot meal for staff, £50 could fund a tablet so that patients can connect and with loved ones, £95 could fund a counselling session for patients who are self isolating and unable to leave their homes.

Help Musicians not only supports musicians but those directly involved in the production of music. Many in this industry are falling through the gaps for government help and although outdoor events have been given the go ahead it might not be until next year before many are able to work at full capacity again. Help Musicians also run a support line called Music Minds Matter, a 24 hour free support line. It doesn’t have to be a crisis, they have trained advisors to listen and support

What will the London Ukulele Project do with their split?

We have a list of schools that have requested ukulele sets and have also been asked by Music Therapy Departments within hospitals. Not only to bring some comfort to patients but also to the nurses and doctors themselves.

We also want to continue to do everything we can to help combat loneliness including supporting ukulele artists and teachers for more information visit our website

Thank you to all the artists and ukulele players who have given their time and supported this project and to anyone who downloads our single or makes a donation we are forever grateful, thank you!
