When my friend Lexi and her husband Jared found out they were pregnant, they were over the moon. Jared suffered a spinal cord injury 7 years ago and their desire to have another child would come at great cost or a miracle. They found their miracle in a Nurse Practitioner from Craig Hospital. She took their dream and made it reality. Lexi found out she was pregnant in February and began her search for the most important piece of furniture in her nursery, the crib. Lexi is a promoter of small business, as she herself earns her income through “It Works”, and likes to support other self employed women. While browsing Facebook she came across a local woman who created rustic wooden furniture pieces. Lexi reached out to her and explained their situation, asking the woman to build her a modified crib that would be accessible to Jared with his wheelchair. This woman was willing to build her dream crib for a fraction of what she would’ve paid a reputable retailer. They traded ideas and the plans were set out. Lexi sent the woman a deposit through Venmo. A few short weeks after transferring the money, correspondence ceased and the woman’s trail went seemingly cold. A mutual friend, of both Lexi and the woman, was able to send her the address and phone number of the woman. After reaching out, Lexi realized she had ultimately been stood up. She is just three weeks shy of her due date and still has no crib. This baby deserves to have her father be able to access her in her crib. They deserve to not be taken advantage of with their situation and to have what they need. Let’s help get them a modified crib before baby Briar gets here!
