Louis solywoda project

Aloha! I’m Louis Solywoda, a 17-year-old photographer born and raised in Hawaii on Oahu. The ocean is a big part of my life.  Whether I'm surfing, diving for shells to make jewelry, or meditating on the shore, the ocean has had a deep healing impact and has now become a part of me. 

Last year, I picked up a camera and began a love affair with ocean photography.   My photos embrace the natural beauty of a unique island ecosystem — from the crystaline blue of the waters to the mischievous glint in the eye of a turtle.    I created a website, http://www.louissolywodaphotography.com  (it is still under development), but the best place to see my current work is on instagram at @loudawg___ . 

My personal favorite is surf photography.  It is my dream to have one of my shots appear on the cover of a major surf magazine.  But I'm still learning.  My senior project is an exploration of ocean and surf photography.  Everyday, I learn new techniques.  I have met many professional photographers who tell me that I need to upgrade my equpiment to improve the quality of my photos and have a real shot at getting a surf magazine cover. 

I have a few second-hand pieces of equipment and borrow cameras from my family when they are in a good mood.  Therefore, my goal is to raise $5000 to purchase a decent camera, a good zoom lense and water housing.  My senior project will culminate in a photo gallery at a venue down town.
