Sr Winifride Loreto - Peru Appeal
Donation protected
Sister Winifride who taught many of us in Loreto Foxrock in the 1980s, left her career as a teacher to move to Peru as a Missionary and continues her amazing work in Jicamarca near Lima today. Every year we hold a collection in our Church on Holy Thursday to support Sr Winifride. As we are unable to do that this year we are taking her incredible work to you online. Also, as many of us who knew her, now live and work abroad and are unable to donate in person please donate whatever you can to support her work here on this page. We are aiming to achieve €5000 this year. Last year was the first year in 35 that we were unable to hold a Church Collection in Foxrock to support Sr Winifride and the Sisters' work in Peru so we really need your help now.

She writes "in a room next to the chapel in Jicamarca, a lively group of young women sit around a table taking notes, drawing patterns and assisting each other as they listen to Jackie their teacher. This is their second year at the Costurera Workshop - a project of the Loreto sisters in Peru. The project offers a one year "Costura Basica" (basic dressmaking) and a two year "Alta Costura" (higher level dress making) enabling these women to make clothes for their families. If they are lucky they can work in local factories or start their own businesses.
With the funding from Foxrock, Sr Winifride and the Loreto sisters are able to offer training to more women which directly helps with the survival of their families. They are also able to provide support workshops on the human trafficking and exploitative work conditions that these women are vulnerable to due to their extreme poverty.
The sisters' work every day with their local community on critical social supports, education, medical clinics, key training, support for the elderly and youth services. Their work is pivotal to the safe futures for the local people in Jicamara near Lima. Both this local community and the Loreto sisters themselves are so very dependent on whatever money you can donate. Please give as generously as you can. Every euro makes an enormous difference.
