Malik's Medical Fund

On Sunday, November 12, 2017, our family’s world was once again thrown into heartbreak and uncertainty. My 22-year-old son, Malik, suffered catastrophic injuries to his spinal cord as a result of a car accident. He has spent the last 9 days fighting through a 6-hour surgery to repair his spine, a tracheotomy, and a collapsed lung, not to mention countless other tests and procedures. Currently, Malik has no feeling in his arms and legs and is facing a long and difficult road ahead. The doctor’s prognosis is bleak, but I know that God is a healer, and I am holding strong to His promises. Malik will walk again!

Life has hit me with a number of trials, and while I am determined to remain faithful and positive, there are many days when I feel discouraged and quite frankly, afraid. Tragedy is no stranger to me, as four years ago I lost my best friend in the world when my husband was brutally murdered and taken away from me, our children, and the rest of his family and friends. Since then, we have tried to pick up the pieces as best we can. Becoming a single mother all over again to not only our children, but also receiving full custody of my grandson, has been a challenge – physically, emotionally, and financially. Some days are better than others, and even with the strength of our Father, it remains hard many days.

For years, both my late husband and I proudly served our country, often unselfishly putting ourselves and families last in order to take care of countless others. Now, I ask for help out of hesitancy and necessity. As you are reading this, hospital bills are quickly mounting. Due to Malik’s critical condition and current prognosis, our lives have taken a drastic change and we are facing demands we never knew possible. Surgeries, rehab, equipment, home care, etc. – just to name a few - are overwhelming expenses, and Malik’s insurance will only cover a small fraction. I am currently trying to get him moved to a rehab facility in Atlanta, which will be an out-of-pocket expense.  Please find in your heart to first, offer up as many sincere prayers that you can, as this is the 2nd most difficult thing that I have ever had to go through. Secondly, if you are able to and feel led to, please consider donating any amount that you can, as we once again try to pick up the pieces and start this difficult journey. No amount is too small, and my gratitude to you all is immeasurable. Thank you in advance for your giving, whether they be prayers or donations. I am forever indebted to you.
