Medical, Funeral Costs

Donation protected
September 1st, 2014, Labor Day ironically, will be a day our family will never forget. Our wonderful father passed away at 1:46 AM after a valiant battle against a fast moving cancer. He was diagnosed 4 months ago with stage 4 adenocarcinoma. As a family, there was little we could do to try and help him fight this demon. On top of this, the doctors discovered a large mass in his duodenum which was inhibiting him from eating and passing any food through his system. We watched this 200 pound, 6’-2” man, shrivel to 130 pounds in a matter of two months. Chemo was not an option, so we resorted to trying natural remedies and supplements with little success. There would be one good day, two bad days…and so on and so on. What you don’t know is the fight this man had in him, and the will to live. He gave it his all, until the very end, but sometimes the disease is bigger than the man.

Here’s what you need to know about Norman, my dad. He held many titles during his lifetime: Navy veteran on the USS Vogelgesang, from 1959 to 1963 at Guantanamo Bay, Mary's beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, comedian, HERO!! He was a hero to all. Those who knew him well will remember his kindness and his love. He had an ability to share a story to not only make people feel welcome, but feel a part of the family, blood related or not. He was a hard working and industrious man, capable of fixing just about anything. A jack of all trades!

Although we grieve at his passing, we also rejoice in the fact that his pain is finally at an end and he suffers no more. He is in the presence of our Heavenly Father. We thank you for your prayers and your kind words and condolences and your recalled memories. This makes the pain of our grief easier to bear. THANK YOU!!

As you can imagine, Dad’s brief fight against cancer was a costly one. It is always uncomfortable to speak of such things, particularly in the midst of such grief, but it is a fact. As you all might be aware, budget cuts over the years have whittled away at VA benefits, and increasingly leaves veterans families with sizable debt after their deaths. Our family is feeling the pain of mounting medical bills and now funeral costs along with our grief.

In all humility, we ask you to consider your financial situation and help our family weather this grief, not just in words and prayers, but financially as well. Times are tough, as we all know, and any help proffered is greatly appreciated and we thank EVERYONE for any support provided: be it financial, spiritual or material.

Thank you and May God bless you all as He has blessed all who knew Norman.

Sincerely,

The Snyder Family
